Singapore’s pickleball community is gaining another major boost — this time in the heart of Little India. The Little India bus terminal along Race Course Road will soon be repurposed into eight dedicated pickleball courts, with an expected opening in early 2026. Bookings will be available through MyActiveSG+, making the courts easily accessible for players island-wide.
A First for Singapore: Transforming Transport Space for Sports
Sport Singapore (SportSG) recently announced a tender to retrofit sections of the terminal for sports use. Works include new sports flooring and the installation of professional pickleball nets across the entire area, with completion expected in just six weeks once construction begins.
This marks the first time a bus facility in Singapore is being redesigned for sports, highlighting the rapid rise of pickleball as one of the country’s fastest-growing recreational activities.
Designed for the Community Around Farrer Park & Little India
The initiative comes in response to community requests for more pickleball spaces in the vicinity. Mr Alvin Tan, Minister of State for National Development and MP for Tanjong Pagar GRC, shared that he encouraged SportSG and the Land Transport Authority (LTA) to explore creative space usage — leading to this innovative conversion.
Today, the 1,065 sq m terminal serves as a Sunday transport point for migrant workers heading to their dormitories. From Mondays to Saturdays, it will instead become a vibrant sports venue, aligned with Singapore’s ongoing plans to promote active living and expand accessibility to recreational facilities — especially in the evolving Farrer Park sports estate.
What This Means for Pickleball in Singapore
With growing demand and more players joining the sport every week, the announcement is timely. Players can look forward to:
-
More sheltered courts protected from sun and rain
-
Greater booking availability on MyActiveSG+
-
A central location that supports the expanding pickleball network
-
Government-backed growth of the sport
This project signals Singapore’s strong commitment to nurturing community sports, while showing how urban spaces can be reinvented to bring people together through play.
Stay Active. Stay Connected.
Early 2026 will be an exciting moment for the local pickleball community — and Pickleball Corner Singapore will be ready to welcome everyone onto the new courts.
Until then, players can still join us across current venues, shop the latest paddles and equipment, or sign up for upcoming clinics and open plays across Singapore.
